Proper Barista Coffee in Bray, on Castle Street

Most places in Bray will hand you a coffee. Castle Inn will make you one. Our barista station sits at the heart of a pub that has been part of Little Bray life since the 1860s, and the standard of what comes out of it reflects that same care for doing things right.

If you've been searching for coffee shops in Bray that go beyond the basics, or somewhere to sit quietly with a cup that was actually worth ordering, you've found it.

Where the Coffee Comes From

We source our beans from McCabe's in Newtown Mount Kennedy, Wicklow. A roaster with a serious reputation and a local one at that. When people ask about premium coffee in Bray, this is what separates a thoughtful cup from a generic one: knowing where the beans come from and working with people who take the roasting as seriously as we take the pulling of the shot.

McCabe's Wicklow-roasted beans carry a depth and balance that comes through in every drink on our menu. It's the kind of thing you notice after the first sip without knowing why, and figure out by the second.

Not Just a Coffee Stop

Castle Inn isn't a cafe in Bray in the conventional sense. We're a neighbourhood pub with a proper kitchen, a full bar, and a barista station that earns its place in all of it. That means your coffee comes with the option of a meal, a quiet corner, a pint later if you want one, or simply the time to sit and do nothing at all.

We think of it as your third place. Not home, not work. Somewhere in between, where the atmosphere is right and nobody's rushing you out the door. If you've been typing "coffee shop near me" into your phone after a walk along the seafront or the Cliff Walk, the answer is one street back from Castle Street.

Irish Coffee Worth Talking About

Let's give the Irish Coffee its proper moment. Ours is made with McCabe's espresso, a measure of good Irish whiskey, fresh cream poured over the back of a spoon, and nothing else. No shortcuts. No pre-made mix. The kind of Irish Coffee that earns the name.

It has become one of the things regulars bring visitors in specifically for. If you haven't tried it, that's reason enough to come in on its own.

A Quiet Corner in a Busy Town

Bray has plenty going on. The seafront, the Cliff Walk, the DART, the Saturday market. Castle Inn is the kind of stop that anchors a good day rather than interrupting it.

The best cafes in Bray don't just serve good coffee. They give you somewhere to actually be for a while. We're open Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm, which means we're here when most of the town is out walking, shopping, or trying to find somewhere decent to sit down after a morning on the coast.

Pull up a stool at the bar, settle into a booth by the window, or grab the corner table if you need to get something done. The wi-fi works. The coffee is good. Nobody will move you along.

Coffee That Fits Into a Bigger Visit

One of the things that sets Castle Inn apart from a standalone cafe is what surrounds the coffee. Come in for a cup and stay for lunch. Come in after dinner and order something from the barista. Come in after the Sunday Carvery and let the afternoon settle properly.

The kitchen runs Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm to 9pm, so the premium coffee is always available alongside a full A La Carte menu and our famous Sunday Carvery. It's a combination you won't find in most places that describe themselves as a cafe.

Frequently Asked Questions — Sunday Carvery at Castle Inn

  • Is Castle Inn one of the best cafes in Bray for specialty coffee?

We'd say yes, though we'll let the cup speak for itself. Our barista station uses McCabe's Wicklow-roasted beans and a full espresso-based menu. For anyone looking for barista coffee in Bray that's made with actual care, we're the place.

  • Do you serve coffee outside of meal times?

Yes. The barista station is open whenever we are, Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm. You don't need to order food to come in for a coffee. Sit down, have a cup, stay as long as you like.

  • What makes your Irish Coffee stand out?

It starts with the coffee. McCabe's espresso has the depth to hold up against whiskey without disappearing into it. We use fresh cream poured properly, not squirted from a can. The result is an Irish Coffee that tastes like it was made by someone who cares about both halves of the drink.

  • Is there somewhere comfortable to sit and work or catch up?

There is. Castle Inn has a warm, relaxed atmosphere with booth seating and bar seating, decent wi-fi, and the kind of background noise that's easy to tune out. We're not a co-working space, but plenty of people treat us like one on weekday afternoons.

  • Where exactly is Castle Inn in Bray?

We're at 1 Castle Street, Little Bray, a short walk from the seafront and the DART station. If you've been searching for a cafe in Bray that's easy to get to whether you're arriving by train or on foot from the coast, Castle Inn is well placed for both.
